Main Library announces additional resources at upcoming lecture

Author and historian Mary Kratt’s knowledge of Charlotte has led her to write walking tours of Uptown Charlotte and give history tours at the Museum of the New South. On Wednesday, June 17, Kratt will extend her knowledge to patrons of the Main Library, as part of her five-library tour. As Kratt shows pictures from her new book, Charlotte: A Brief History, and educates patrons on the Queen City’s milestones and development, several historical associations will be on hand to inform attendees of how they can experience Charlotte additionally on their own. In attendance will be:

Historical Charlotte, Inc., which actively promotes historic preservation through the coordination of heritage groups throughout the greater Charlotte region.

Davidson College’s E.H. Little Library Archives, which houses a local history database that contains over 6,500 historical photographs, artifacts, digital collections, and town and college historical information.

Wing Haven Gardens will also be in attendance. This garden, founded by Elizabeth and Eddie Clarkson in the 1920s, was the topic of Kratt’s book A Bird in the House: the Story of Wing Haven Garden.

Kratt’s talk will begin at 12:15 at Main Library. The historical associations will be offering information and answering questions from 11:00-2:00. For more information, call (704) 416-0100.
