Big Book Sale to benefit Public Library
Does the thought of large piles of books spread for miles make you want to pull over and add to your collection? Then this super huge community book sale is for you. The “Old Books to New Books” sale will run Oct. 15-17 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will take place in Suites G, H and J in the Specialty Shops at the Charleston Row House on 2015 Ayrsley Town Boulevard.
Choose from almost 30,000 fiction, nonfiction, children’s and young adult titles. Most will be priced under $5 and all proceeds will benefit the Library’s purchase of needed new books and materials.
The sale promises to be the Library’s largest ever, and would not have been possible without some very generous donations. Many of the books were donated by the family of Sophie Bruckner Greenfield. Greenfield spent her life reading writers like Homer, Shakespeare and Twain. With her passing last fall, her sons saw more than twenty thousand books without a home, and through the generous donation of her personal collection, the Library is offering its patrons a chance to give these much-loved books a new home.
Other books and materials have been donated by the community or were older books and materials that have been weeded from the library’s collection to make room for more.
