North County Regional Library serves northern Mecklenburg County, including the towns of Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. The tri-level 23,728 sq. ft. building was constructed in 1997 with funds from bonds approved by voters in 1995. North County offers a large selection of books, media and reference materials - both print and electronic - as well as many other features. There is something for everyone at the library. The Popular Library on the entry level is where visitors will find new and high demand materials: rental bestsellers, new fiction and non-fiction, DVDs, music CDs, Audiotape books and Books on CD, and a popular ongoing book sale.
The Information Services department, located on the lower level, offers visitors professional reference service 71 hours a week, in person or by telephone. This department houses a large collection of adult and young adult fiction, non-fiction, biographies, magazines and newspapers, and a Large Print collection. In addition, North County has a Spanish Language collection and a Chinese Language collection.
North County Regional Library has 30 computers available for public use on the lower level, many of which provide access to the Internet. Software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is also available. The Information Services staff will be happy to show you how to use our subscription databases which give you access to homework help, periodicals, literary criticism, and much more.
Our professional Information Services staff is ready to help with any of your information needs and provides regular programming for adults, including computer workshops, family gaming nights, English as a Second Language, and other programming.
Young Adults are especially welcome at North County and are encouraged to check out our YA fiction, graphic novels and comic books. YAs are welcome to attend Tuesday is for Teens, with special programs on Tuesdays for teens, including anime, game nights, origami, and book clubs. The Children's Services department is on the upper level and features well-lighted study and reading areas with large window bays. Visitors will discover a friendly, professional Children's staff ready to assist with homework questions, age-appropriate book suggestions, and computer sign-ups. The Children's staff also provides a full range of programs for children, families, and daycare providers.
Sixteen computers are available for early learning games and homework help along with books for children through fifth grade, Audiotape books, Books on CD, board books, paperbacks, magazines, music CDs, children's videos, computer software, and children's foreign language collections in Vietnamese and Spanish.
The Amigos de la Biblioteca tutoring club provides free tutoring for elementary school children during the school year from October through the end of April. For more information about this program please call Irania Patterson at (704) 416-0557.
Conexiones que cuentan/Connections that Count is a program for parents and children ages birth to 5 years old to address school readiness with stories, songs, and activities in Spanish. For more information about this program please call Veronica Corral at (704) 416-0556.
Registration is required to attend all children's programs. Children's staff enjoys providing age-appropriate, fun programs for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children and families.
