June 11 – August 6, 2008
For kids age 4 to rising 5th graders.

Guidelines

How do I join? Sign up at any PLCMC library (all locations except Checkit Outlet and Main Library) beginning June 11, 2008, pick up a Reading Record, and catch the reading bug!

What counts as reading? You can read to yourself, to someone else, have someone read to you, spend time writing or attend a program at any PLCMC library. You can read books, magazines, comics, or listen to recorded books.

How much should I read each day? We all have our own pace, so you can go as fast or as slow as you want. We suggest at least 30 minutes a day.

How old do I have to be? Age 4 to rising 5th graders. Children under 4 can join Wee Read, rising 6th-12th graders can check out Teen Summer Reading, and parents can join Relax and Read.

How do I keep track of what I’ve read? Color one shape on your Reading Record, for each hour of reading or writing. When you reach 10 hours and 20 hours, bring your Reading Record to the library to collect a prize or “Book Buck.”

What is a Book Buck? Book Bucks are an opportunity to give back to our community by providing books to local centers in need. They can be awarded instead of prizes at 10 and 20 hours.

Read Down Your Fines . . . Children taking part in the Summer Reading program can read down $1 in fines for every hour completed on their reading record. This can only be applied toward fines on their library card on or before August 6, 2008.

When will the Summer Reading Club end? The last day to have your Reading Record stamped and pick up prizes will be August 6, 2008. Bring your record in as soon as you have finished -- quantities are limited.
