Book Club Kits Program*

Why does the library provide Book Club Kits? What do they include?

Part of the library’s mission is to provide opportunities for personal success in reading and learning for everyone. To this end we offer:

    • Book Club Kits - including several copies of a book for use by your club, author biography, discussion questions, and tips for a successful book discussion
    • Free meeting room space for your book club at some branches
    • A directory of local book clubs

How do I reserve a kit?

Choose a title from the list of Book Club Kits. Then use our online form to request your Book Club Kit. You must fill out the online form or call 704-336-2725 to reserve a kit for your book club. Please allow at least one week for a staff member to contact you about your request. Or, you may visit your local library and ask the librarian to reserve Book Club Kits for you.

** Borrowers cannot place reserves on the kits through the library catalog

How many kits can I reserve?

You can reserve as many kits in advance as you wish, however, you can only check out one kit at a time. There are many book clubs who use this program, and we ask that, in consideration for them, you reserve one kit per six week period.

How long can I keep a kit?

A kit is checked out to one book group member who is responsible for all of the materials. The group may keep the kit for up to 6 weeks. Book Club Kits may not be renewed. Please return kits promptly so they will be available for other book groups.

Where can I pick up and return a kit?

You can pick up a kit at any PLCMC location. Kits must be returned to a PLCMC library during open hours, since they can’t be returned in a book drop. The fine for overdue kits is $1.00 a day, and missing books will be charged to the person who checked out the kit.

How can I reserve free meeting space for my book club?

You can a reserve a day and time for your book club to meet by calling your local branch. The book club must be open to new members and will be cosponsored by the library branch. Meeting room space is subject to availability, and all meeting room regulations apply.

May we add your Book Club to our Directory?

Please enter your club’s information here  Once your book club information has been approved, your club will be added to the Book Club Directory
