Foundation Support
Foundation giving is driven in large part by the ‘credibility, dependability and accountability’ of the organization applying for the grant. In recent years the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg has received grants from several prestigious grant-making foundations. In every case, the goals and objectives for the funded initiative have been clearly defined and in every case the Public Library has met or exceeded those goals.
Examples include grants from:
- The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in support of the Library’s Celebration of the Buffalo Soldier.
- The DeWitt Wallace/Reader’s Digest Fund in support of Teens Succeed, an on-going program serving at risk middle school age youth.
- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the purchase of computer equipment for the new Virtual Village.
- The National Endowment for the Humanities for children’s and adult programming.
- The Institute for Museum & Library Sciences for web site development.
