Entrance The University City Regional Library serves the University City area of Charlotte, one of the fastest growing business, health care, and academic areas of the county. The library has expanded its facilities to better serve its growing community. In addition to the services already offered, the library now has a special storytime room for children's programming, a room in the adult services area equipped with fifteen computers for expanded computer resources and training and more places for the public to use as study areas and for laptop use. The University City Regional Library also continues to strive for excellence by maintaining a growing fiction and non-fiction collection of print materials.

University city offers a strong and extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction materials for people of all ages, videos,rental DVDs, books on audiotape and CD, CD-ROM materials, and a wide variety of electronic resources in both the children's and the adult service areas.

Reference Desk Help Information Services has an experienced professional staff ready to help people of all ages with their informational and reader's advisory needs. Along with a reference area which includes consumer health, college and career, North Carolina, and Black History collections, the department now has a Computer Learning Center equipped with sixteen computers which provide access to the Internet and other online resources for training classes and for the public to use. Also available are computers providing business, homework help and research databases, and word processing. A morning book club featuring non-fiction books on historical topics is offered once a month, and a monthly evening book club meets discuss a variety of books and authors. Various informative and exciting programs for the public are scheduled periodically throughout the year (view our programs calendar).

Cozy Corner University City offers a diverse menu of programs for children from ages 0 through 12. The staff is trained to answer reference questions pertaining to both homework and simple curiosity. The staff will gladly assist in finding the right book for every child.

University City offers a wide variety of programs for children from birth to age 12. The children's staff is ready to answer all kinds of reference questions for homework and informational needs. We offer reader's advisory help and book lists to help choose the right books for every reader. Storytimes are presented weekly. Drop in! No registration required.

  • Lap Lover (babies not yet walking) A short, bright beginning to storytime.
  • Story Time Young and Restless (for walkers under 2 years) Stories, music, rhythm and movement for one year olds.
  • Terrific Twos (2 year olds) Storytime introducing good books, finger plays, songs, and activities.
  • Preschool (ages 3-5) Pre-kindergarten skills, longer stories, games, and songs.
  • Twilight Tales (all ages welcome) Evening family program of stories, songs and activities.
  • School-age Programs (ages 5-12) Special events offered each month.

  • The Popular Library features a wide selection of rental best sellers, the newest books, both fiction and non-fiction, music CDs, CD-ROM programs, Videos, rental books on disc, and a collection of rental DVDs featuring the latest blockbuster movies besides many of the classics.

  • Foreign Language collection featuring fiction books in Gujarati, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese languages.
Kite Theme Consider the theme of flight when you come in to our library… kites flying near the ceiling, balloons and birds and a cast of soaring creatures are a few of the "flights" of fancy that you will discover in the new building ...

Public Art Featured at University City:

  • Large glass cube sculpture in foyer entitled "Cubic Harmony" designed by Winston-Salem artist Jon Kuhn.
  • Two outdoor sculptures on loan from the UNCC Art department:16 foot steel framework sculpture with painted steel panels entitled, "Bridge to Knowledge" by Winston Tite, Associate Professor of Art/Sculpture at UNCC; 8 foot granite, Plexiglas and aluminum sculpture entitled, "Spelcheck" by artist Eric Anderson, Associate Professor of Art/Sculpture at UNCC.
