Carlisle, Kate(2009)
Homicide in Hardcover
Brooklyn Wainwright is a bookbinder. Doesn't sound that exciting, but she
enjoys it. When her mentor and former boss is given the project of a lifetime, a copy of Goethe's Faust, Brooklyn is slightly jealous but knows
Abraham deserves it. However the book is said to be cursed and anyone who
works with it, or on it, will die. When Abraham is murdered everyone
thinks it's the curse. But when Brooklyn is accused of the murder she
decides to take matters into her own hands. Will she find the killer? Or
will the murderer find her?

Fitzgerald, Frances(1972)
Fire in the Lake: The Vietnamese and the Americans in Vietnam
Winner of the Pulitzer and other prizes, this book, a cultural rather than
a combat history, remains after 30 years a classic as well as a valuable
source on the Vietnamese and America's ill-fated decision to meddle in
their revolution. More than anything else, it makes crystal clear the
profound difference in values and the total lack of understanding between
the two cultures. Indeed, the application of lessons learned and - more
importantly - not learned in the "American War" suggest that history is
hell-bent upon repeating itself again and again until America learns to
walk a mile in other cultures' shoes.

The Truth About Lord Stoneville
Fate brings together two conflicted characters in this Regency Romance by the talented Sabrina Jeffries. Both Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoveville, and Maria Butterfield, American heiress, are in search of a marriage partner. Oliver needs a fake fiancé to thwart his devious grandmother’s matrimonial threats, and Maria traveled across the ocean to find her lost fiancé. After a chance encounter at a brothel, of all places, they make a deal to help one another. Jeffries delivers two complex characters who learn relationships are never easy, and changing is even harder. With a fast paced plot and several surprises, Jeffries has the reader hooked for the new series of the Hellions of Halstead Hall.

Pirate Latitudes
Pirates of the Caribbean or rather, “Privateers” of the Caribbean, 1665. The difference between the two terms isn’t ‘quibbling,’ but the difference between being tried and executed as an outlaw if caught, or working honorably for the Crown. Captain Hunter, an English privateer, sets out on a sea voyage with a colorful cast of characters from Port Royal, Jamaica to Matanceros, a heavily fortified Spanish outpost, to seize a Spanish galleon and exact vengeance on the feared Commander Cazalla. Published posthumously, this book is an action-packed page-turner, drama on the high seas, with narrow escapes, a damsel in distress, bloodthirsty Caribs, a hurricane, gold fever, and ultimately, betrayal. Based on historical characters and events, Pirate Latitudes is a satisfying, fast read.
